Design of a Marine Environment Buoy Monitoring Platform Based on LoRa

With the growing demand of marine and maritime resources for economic development, challenges such as climate change, marine pollution, and ecological degradation have intensified, emphasizing the need for efficient and scalable marine environmental monitoring solutions. Traditional monitoring methods, including satellite remote sensing, coastal monitoring stations, and survey vessels, face inherent limitations including real-time data acquisition, coverage, and operational costs. To address these challenges, this study proposes a LoRa-based buoy monitoring platform, integrating low-power sensors, intelligent data processing and long-range wireless communication. The system comprises of one or more monitoring nodes, a LoRa concentrator, and a cloud platform, enabling real-time acquisition and transmission of key marine parameters, such as temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen. By leveraging LPWAN technology, particularly LoRa, the proposed system ensures low power consumption, long-range data transmission, and cost-effective scalability, making it a viable alternative to traditional satellite-based solutions. Future work will focus on system optimization, large-scale deployment, and real-world validation.
